Did Microsoft and Sun Team Up?

This is not an April Fools post.

The other day I was installing a Java Update, and I found it a little strange to see this ad for the MSN Toolbar, with the option to install it.

Aren't Microsoft and Sun mortal enemies? Much like He-Man and Skelator, Gi-Joe and Cobra, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny? What sort of alternate dimension am I in when these two team up?

It does get a little stranger, the next screen has an ad for Open Office on it.

I wonder what Ad agency worked this deal out? I wonder if Microsoft could have paid more to get rid of the Open Office Ad.

I don't see it so much as a "team-up", but more like just one company buying ad space from another.

They have always been at each other's throats. Could you imagine Chevy buying Ads on Ford dealerships? It just seems strange to me.
